Welcome

A warm welcome is extended to all model boat sailors, whether scale, power, sail or electric propulsion.

Members are happy to advise newcomers to radio sailing with regard to sources and construction of any of our boats.

The Boats We Sail

We hold a series of races on Saturday and Tuesday mornings all year round starting at 10.00 and usually completing by 12.00. More detail can be seen on our 'Programme' page.

We are one of the few clubs in the UK with an active fleet of radio controlled 36r class model yachts that are usually raced on alternate Saturdays. These boats are the largest and arguably the most graceful we sail, with the short keel and the large sail rig that is almost a prerequisite for the sheltered and shallow Woodbridge Pond.

We may also take the 36r to the ponds at Southwold or Dovercourt during the summer to let them stretch their legs !

Raced on alternate Saturdays are R36 class and Micro Magics.

The larger Dragonforce 65 and our own development class the 1/2/3 are raced on alternate Tuesdays.

For one Sunday each month we race the free Southwold Beach Yawls, more detail on these unique boats can be found on our 'History' page.

Each Monday is a dedicated 'Scale' or motor boat sailing day administered to by our Scale Secretary.

Members of the club also meet for an informal 'Scale and Sail' session on Wednesday mornings at the pond.

Winter talks

During the winter months, lectures and workshops on maritime topics are arranged, held at either Woodbridge Football Club, or the Deben Watersports Centre classroom (next door to our small shed marked ‘Woodbridge Model Boat Club’ adjacent to the pond.

Social events

During the year the club organises a fitting out luncheon, a laying-up luncheon, a club meal (usually after the A.G.M.) and has been known to have a barbecue in the Summer.
